Q. Is Eskaton Village Carmichael considered a life-care community? The term “life-care” is used only for continuing care retirement communities that provide physician and hospital services in addition to long-term care services. Therefore, Eskaton Village is not considered a life-care community.
Q. Must I pass a health examination to be a member of Eskaton Village Carmichael? You must be in generally good physical and mental health for your age. Your health screening will be conducted by the director of resident care before your move. A statement from your doctor will be required at that time.
Q. What are my options if I need health care? The health care staff of Eskaton Village Carmichael, in consultation with you, your physician and your family, will determine the level of care you require. Short-term home health care will be available in your residence. If you should require regular assistance in daily living, you may move to an assisted living apartment on the campus. The Village Care Center provides rehabilitative therapy and 24-hour skilled nursing. Routine health maintenance services, such as blood pressure monitoring, will be provided by the Village health care staff. A Health Center office and examination room are available for physician appointments, and a health care attendant is on call 24-hours a day for emergencies.
Q. What health insurance is required to be a member of Eskaton Village Carmichael? You must be enrolled in Medicare Parts A and B or have equivalent coverage that meets the Village requirements for hospitals, physicians, drugs and other acute care health services. A Medicare supplemental policy is also encouraged. Your membership coordinator can discuss your individual situation with you.
Q. May I sell my membership at Eskaton Village? Your membership may be resold at any time by you or by your estate. When the transaction has closed, you will receive 90% of the sales price up to your original purchase price and 50% of any appreciation. The membership allows you to preserve your equity and participate in any increase in the membership value. Eskaton Village Carmichael will provide marketing support to assist in the sale of memberships to prequalified applicants. You may transfer from your residence to another by selling that membership and buying a new one.
Q. What is included in the monthly fee? The monthly fee includes three meals each day (optional meal plans are available), 24-hour on-campus courtesy patrol, advice nurse, scheduled transportation, weekly housekeeping, linen service, building and landscape maintenance, on-site administrative staff, utilities (including water, heat, air-conditioning, electricity and trash removal), use of all common areas and recreational, social and cultural opportunities. The monthly fees are based on single or double occupancy and residence size.
Q. Will the monthly fees increase over time? Monthly fees are a function of operating costs and may increase, just as your living expenses increase in your own home. It is our goal to maintain the high quality of Eskaton Village Carmichael through prudent management.
Q. What qualifications must I meet for membership? All applicants must be financially capable of purchasing the membership for the residence of their choice and maintaining payment of the monthly fee. Applicants must be in good physical and mental health for their age and meet Eskaton Village Carmichael’s health standards.
Q. How can I reserve a residence at Eskaton Village? A deposit of $2500 will reserve the residence of your choice or put you on a waiting list while you complete the financial review and comprehensive health screen. Upon approval, $2000 of your deposit will be applied to your membership. Should you change your mind, your deposit is refundable less a $500 processing charge. Should your application be declined, you will receive a full refund.
Q. How does the waiting list work? Your placement on the waiting list is determined by the date your deposit check is received. You can be placed on the list for any or all of the various floor plans. You remain on the waiting list until you choose the residence that is right for you.
Q. What security measures are designed into Eskaton Village? Eskaton Village Carmichael is fenced and gated. The entrance is monitored around-the-clock, and staff is present 24-hours a day. Each residence has an emergency call system that alerts staff at the front desk for immediate response. Smoke detectors and water sprinklers are located throughout the buildings, including apartments and cottages.
Q. Will my residence be soundproof? Every reasonable effort has been made to minimize the transmission of sound, including double-wall construction, insulation of walls between residences and lightweight concrete floors with soft floor coverings for sound absorption.
