Forty-one years ago, Eskaton made a commitment — to enhance the quality of life of seniors
through innovative health, housing and social services. And we’ve succeeded — and continue
to succeed — by diligently working with our many partners in promoting a society that values
and cares for our aging population.
Today, we’re looking at the future of aging involving home-centered healthcare and
homes that adapt to every stage of life. Eskaton is a leader in this movement—researching
independent and barrier-free living, as well as home and healthcare technologies.
“But why stop here?” we thought. “What if we could marry all of these elements into a home
for life—and truly influence and change the future of aging?”
Our research led to the creation of the Livable Design™ program, a unique building model
encompassing universal design, and infrastructure for home and healthcare technologies that
allow older individuals to stay in their homes longer—maximizing independence, personal
health and overall well-being.
However, like most innovations, the program was initially met with some resistance. Many
builders simply could not imagine building flexible, adaptable homes that are not only
beautiful, but cost-effective.
As we struggled with how to overcome this obstacle, it occurred to us—people just needed to
see it. Touch it. Feel it.
We knew that if people experienced the house—and were able to touch, see and use the
elements up close and personally — they would understand how this concept could influence
the future of aging, while at the same time capture the beauty and comfort traditional homes
offer.
Flash-forward to today and you will see how our vision has become a reality—the Eskaton
National Demonstration Home, located in Roseville, CA, married universal design, home and
healthcare technologies and green living to create a home for every stage of life. By allowing
people to live in their own homes longer, we’ll reduce healthcare costs associated with aging,
and, most importantly, protect what senior value most – their independence
We will always continue our mission and dedication to provide skilled nursing, assisted living
and other residential care options to seniors. However, with more than 70 million Boomers
requiring assistance and care in the near future, we need to create more options — options and
choices that will allow our aging population to stay at home, retaining something money simply
can’t buy — their independence.
We invite you to experience the beauty of universal design, innovative health and wellness
technologies, and green features combined in a home for every stage of life.
