Eskaton Home Design Wins National Award . . .

ROSEVILLE, CA - The National Association of Home Builders’ 50+ Housing Council awarded Eskaton National Demonstration Home its Gold Award for Best Detached Home in an Active Adult Community.

The jurors’ noted, “This smaller home implements excellent universal design features. With a no step entry, break-away and reduced height cabinetry along with the overall simple accessible flow of the floor plan, this plan demonstrates how an otherwise typical plan can easily be adapted offering its owner a stylish place to age in place. Fantastic!”

The Best of 50+ Housing Awards is the industry’s most esteemed national program honoring excellence in building, design, and marketing of housing for boomers and beyond. The NAHB 50+ Housing Council revealed the award winners at the Best of 50+ Housing Awards gala in Philadelphia, PA on April 28, 2009. The event was held in conjunction with NAHB’s Building for Boomers & Beyond: 50+ Housing Symposium.

"This prestigious recognition by the National Association of Home Builders further validates the objective of the Demonstration Home," said Sheri Peifer, vice president, research and strategic planning. "Everyone wants to remain in their own homes for as long as possible. This home demonstrates how this can be accomplished – practically and economically."

The Eskaton National Demonstration Home opened last fall as a learning center for architects, builders, researchers, students, older adults and others. The ability to create a home environment that is supportive for a lifetime, yet aesthetically gracious in design is what sets this home apart from any other.

The California State Assembly’s chair of the Committee on Aging and Long-Term Care, Assemblymember Bonnie Lowenthal, recently toured the home and said, “The demonstration home effectively links technology and universal design. This is a home that would work for anyone, regardless of age.”

Eskaton provides residences, community services and healthcare to support the independence and quality of living for more than 15,000 older adults annually throughout northern California. The nonprofit organization's full continuum of aging services includes residential living with services, assisted living, memory care, hospice, skilled nursing, home care and multiple other special programs. Affordability, innovation, collaboration, education and compassion are Eskaton standards as it endeavors to transform the aging experience.
