To All Concerned,

Yesterday, we again had a couple of ladies come and wash our clothes and clean our apartment. Nichole and Stephanie do a fabulous job of both. How they keep track of all the clothes is beyond us. Every once in a while they take out terrible spots for which we are most appreciative. Also, they arranged for Barry to come and shampoo the rugs in our apartment; they look 100% better! Bottom line, the people we have mentioned are just nice people; cheerful and kind.

To Eskaton Village Placerville,

It would be impossible to mention by name each RCA and "pill lady". As a group, they are wonderful and singly, each one is kind, dedicated, cheerful and caring. If we were to list each one in the group by name, we might miss one. We look forward to the greeting each day, "Good Morning".

Family, that is the adjective; they all seen like family.

To Eskaton Village Placerville,

I just wanted to compliment Brian. We are so often very quick to complain and to find fault and so slow to praise.

My doctor’s appointment was changed so I needed to change my bath day and time. Brian was very efficient, at ease and kind to me.

I have worked in hospitals and home with the people in need so I’m aware – we often are so very quick to find fault and so slow to praise.

To Debbie, and (Mark and Emily, too),

This note is in regard to Debbie, the RCA, but I had to include Debbie's husband Mark and their daughter Emily. They are all a wonderful family. Cheerful. Kind.

Debbie is a very caring and loving person. We always know when she has been here. An "angel" comes in and turns down the bed, fixes all the pillows (and often leaves mints) and gets out our night clothes. When Debbie comes she puts lotion on my aching legs and when she is here for shower night she knows exactly what to do to keep the residents happy and safe.

We are fortunate that Debbie is on the staff of Eskaton Village Placerville.

Yesterday Troy, your "Eskaton Knight in Shining Armor", came once again to our apartment to help us with our computer. His expertise is invaluable and to boot, his personality is, also, shining. All the employees who work for Eskaton are exceptional and have shining personalities! Thanks so much and looking forward to the future.

To all the fine staff at Eskaton Village Placerville,

Congratulations on your excellent work. And particularly to several who gave John extra help during his last illness; you still go straight to my heart. John was a big man and extra hard to help. You were kind and comforting, jollying him [and me] along, helping us bear what had to be borne. After John's death, you continued your great kindness to me. I still get teary thinking of your sweet hugs and pleasant words. You have indeed acted as angels.

Hi Pamela,

Candy's Mom is doing quite well considering all of the circumstances and it's with much assistance from your talented and capable staff.

I know that your position there is to "market" your company's facilities, but in the beginning we had considered other similar homes for assisted living but after a meeting with you, representing that particular Eskaton, we were convinced that Mom would be comfortable here in her last years.

It was you doing your job, and doing a darn good job of it, that influenced our decision. A sincere heartfelt thank you from all of her family members; you are the greatest! Thank you and your company for providing a great service to those who need it and also to the community.

Dear Friends of Eskaton Village Placerville,

We, as a family, wish to express our gratitude to each and everyone of you for the love, care and kindness you have shown our dear mother Barbara, and her beloved husband Kenny.

December 13, 2009, will always be the day that Eskaton entered our lives and began what they do best on the behalf of our parents. We are both grateful and appreciative. Many memories will forever remain in our hearts as we reflect back. Again, thank you for being so patient and understanding. You helped us make such a difficult transition a little bit easier.

Thank you too for the dignity and concern you showed Kenny as his health declined. He was a wonderful man that dearly loved our mother and could only "let go" when he knew that she would be okay and well cared for. We believe this, and thank each of you for giving Kenny this contentment. We are so pleased knowing he was loved at Eskaton as well.

To Eskaton Village Placerville,

My mom came for respite last weekend and did quite well. She was ready to come home but she liked all the caregivers and was happy with the care she received. She was also very complimentary of the food and even played scrabble.

I would like to schedule her for a few more weekends.

I was very impressed with the care she got. She might even start looking forward to it. Everyone at your community is very professional and I look forward to working with you.

To Eskaton Village Placerville,

We want to give our may fine helpers at Eskaton our sincere thanks and appreciation for the excellent work that they do. Old folks often get cranky. They don't feel very well and they are deprived of many things they enjoyed when they were younger. The staff members here at Eskaton show loving respect and friendliness, however hard it must be sometimes. They seem to be experts at teasing along reluctant appetites at mealtimes, or inviting laggards to participate in activities to enrich their lives.

Thank you and feel pride in your work. It takes real skill plus an excellent disposition to perform so well.

To the Staff of Eskaton Village Placerville,

Thank you so much for the plant in remembrance of my dad. I will try my darndest to keep it alive and well. Chuck would have planted it in his yard and it would have died, but he would have continued watering it just the same.

Most of all, thank you for all you have done for him in the last year of his life. Being 92, he had little motivation to keep going. You folks faced that challenge each day, and gave him reasons to get up every morning.

To the kitchen — My dad gained 20 pounds in the first six months he was there. Must have loved your food. To housekeeping — He would tell me he needed to clean his room, and the you were there. And I know there were many not-so-pretty situations you had to deal with. Plus your assistance with his move made things so much easier for him and me. To activities — Thank you for knowing how much he loved music and making that a part of his last years. To medical staff — Thank you for monitoring medications and wellness and always calling me when there were concerns. To daily care workers — You looked after his every need, including showers and hygiene. What a difficult job that must be, I am not sure I can thank you all enough. To the front desk staff — You folks were always friendly, receptive and informed. Thank you for that. To administration — You dealt with my dad and me in a respectful and positive way. I know he was not always easy, but I think you appreciated the fact that he was a good man. Your efforts to transition him into memory care are greatly appreciated. I'm leaving out many, including laundry, transportation, etc. That's only because I did not have direct contact with these people. Thank you all.

Considering my dad was willing to check out 18 months ago, you made his last year tolerable and sometimes even enjoyable. I could not have provided that quality of care and caring. I will never regret our decision to move him to your facility. We were so lucky to have you when we needed you.

I miss my dad, and I'll miss seeing all of you.

Mom has made such great progress since her arrival on Sept 10th. When she first moved to Eskaton, Mom was in a wheelchair most of the time with minimal time using her walker. And now she is primarily using only her cane to assist with her walking. I do think she has improved greatly!

Dear Evelyn,

As you know, my mother, Lettie is a new resident of your community. So far we are extremely pleased with all of the staff that we have met, so I really should be writing a letter about all of you as you are all great! However, there is one young man who seems to be an employee that you should be extremely proud of. Last week, I asked Grant Baker to assist my mother in his off hours assisting her during one of your outings. He graciously agreed and from what I hear from my mother, Grant was helpful, courteous and really made the trip for her. In addition, Grant insisted that he not accept the pay we were offering for his help. It appears to me that you at Eskaton are fortunate to have such a kind, considerate and honest young man. People with this much integrity are hard to find and I just wanted you, Eskaton and Grant to know that we appreciate and admire him.

December 31, 2008

Dear Shelly,

I want to let you know how very pleased I am with the way my Mom has taken to her new life at Eskaton Village, Placerville. As you know, I'd been trying to get her to move closer to me for more than ten years. She was very stubborn about staying in her own home long after she'd lost the ability to drive, write letters, or care for herself. She'd been receiving daily home care and I'd been making regular 1,500 mile round trips to look after her needs for the past three years. Not until she'd had a stroke four months ago and required 24 hr. care for a few weeks did the straw break the camel's back. That's when I saw your ad in the Mountain Democrat and called on Labor Day weekend to leave a message. I was astonished when Evelyn called back and encouraged me to
come over for a visit on that Holiday weekend. She was so personable and competent that I immediately signed up, against the advice of friends who were steering me towards a much smaller facility.

My Mom was very unhappy when she got the news and let everyone know about it. During the time I was packing up her home and preparing for the move, she complained constantly and was very depressed and teary. Everyone around her was supportive and assured her that this was the best thing to do, but she was adamant about staying in her home of 25 years. Although my Dad had passed on 22 yrs. ago, her memories were there and she regularly paraded them out.

The good news came when we pulled up to your wonderful facility and you all came out to greet us. She was so surprised; and when you tucked her into her recliner with her new Eskaton blanket, you put the icing on the cake. It's been so wonderful to see her eat so well at the meals without having to be encouraged or spoon fed. Watching her interact and make friends with the other ladies has been a dream come true for me. I'd been telling her that this was going to be like being on a full time vacation, and you guys have made it just that. When Fred & Grant come out of the kitchen to ask what she'd like to eat and wait on her like the Queen of Sheeba, she really gets a kick out of it. Every time she sees Brian she says, "that guy is such a nut, every morning he comes to my door and sings, 'Laura, oh my beautiful Laura', and the smile on her face shows how much she appreciates it. The first time Donna gave her a shower she must have told me five times how nice she was and what a good job she'd done. After waiting on me to get her TV remote working, Sally brought her an extra one from home and gave it to her so she could watch Dr. Phil. That's the kind of service you just can't buy.

All of you at Eskaton have done such a great job so far, and we look forward eagerly to the new year with you. All the best.
